Bursa Technical University (BTU) held its 2022-2023 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony with great enthusiasm. The event, which marked the farewell of BTU's new graduates, was attended by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, BTU Rector Prof. Dr. Naci Çağlar, Yıldırım District Mayor Oktay Yılmaz, Yıldırım District Governor Metin Esen, students, their families, as well as academic and administrative staff, and took place at BTU Mimar Sinan Campus.
Opening and Rector Çağlar's Speech
The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. Rector Prof. Dr. Naci Çağlar started his speech by emphasizing that graduation is an important turning point in the lives of young people. He said:
“We are sending off each of our graduates to new lives and new journeys. They will contribute to the development of our country and the national technology movement. We believe that the Turkey Century will be built stronger with them. We trust our graduates because they are well-prepared for life with the knowledge, skills, and experience they gained from our university. With our English preparatory classes, high-tech laboratories, workshops, entrepreneurship training, and our applied education system that is closely integrated with the business world, our young people are starting life one step ahead.”
Professional Training in Business Program (IMEP) and Contribution to the Job Market
Rector Çağlar also highlighted the importance of the Professional Training in Business Program (IMEP), noting that in this model, BTU students gain work experience by working full-time in leading industry institutions during their final year. He pointed out that 70% of graduates are employed within the first 6 months, and many students even receive job offers before graduating.
University-Industry Collaboration and Achievements
Rector Çağlar stressed the importance of university-industry collaboration and stated that BTU is the second state university that allocates the most budget to R&D. He also mentioned that BTU has achieved Turkey's first place in TÜBİTAK-2244 Industrial PhD Program and has several projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Additionally, BTU ranked in the top 300 universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education (THE) Education Quality Index.
8th Year of Graduation and Pride in Graduates
Rector Çağlar stated that this year, BTU is graduating its 8th class, with 1200 students completing their studies. He expressed his pride in the graduates and encouraged them to continue developing themselves and to use the digital world in a benefit-oriented way. He also advised graduates to learn from failures and to always stay curious and determined.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş’s Speech
Mayor Alinur Aktaş stated in his speech that graduating from university gives students the confidence to face life and that studying in a city like Bursa, which is an industrial and innovative hub, is an excellent opportunity. He encouraged graduates to look to the future with hope and emphasized that university education is essential for personal development in today’s world.
Yıldırım District Mayor Oktay Yılmaz’s Speech
Mayor Oktay Yılmaz expressed his belief that BTU graduates will contribute significantly to the development of the region, the country, and the world. He wished the graduates success in their future endeavors and concluded his speech by praying that their paths be blessed.
End of Ceremony and Graduation Hat Toss
The ceremony continued with the awarding of plaques to students who ranked in their faculties. Afterward, the graduates, accompanied by their faculty members, took their places on stage for the ceremonial procession. The ceremony concluded with the graduation hat toss, marking the end of a memorable and joyful day for the graduates.
