BTU Achieves International Project Success and Environmental Support for the Arab Gulf

Bursa Technical University (BTU), which has structured its education, teaching, and research strategy in technical fields based on the "thematic university" concept to meet the needs of Bursa, the region, and the country, continues to reap the benefits of its strong academic staff and over 20 million TL in laboratory investments through international academic, scientific, and technological project successes.

The international project will be carried out by Assoc. Prof. Mete Yılmaz from BTU, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muftah from Qatar University, Dr. Kirsty Smith from the Cawthron Institute in New Zealand, and Andrew Selwood.

Assoc. Prof. Mete Yılmaz, a faculty member in the Department of Bioengineering at BTU, will lead the project's microbiology, genetics, and toxicology studies, determining the genetic basis of toxins in algae at BTU’s laboratories. He said about the project, "As BTU, we are working on many related projects in Bursa and our region. In our newly launched TUBITAK 1001 project, we are researching harmful algae in Uluabat Lake. In addition, we are about to begin scientific studies on algal blooms in the Sea of Marmara, which have frequently been seen in recent years and could be toxic. With the progress we make in our campus infrastructure and strengthening our academic staff, I believe we will produce much more work in the future."
