Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST) Visits BTÜ

Prof. Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, the Head of the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST) and also the PhD advisor of Asst. Prof. Ertuğrul Erkoç, who works at Bursa Technical University (BTU), paid a working visit to BTÜ's Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Sürmen.

During the visit, the establishment of a student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) within the Department of Chemical Engineering at BTÜ and the potential for cooperation between the universities were discussed. Furthermore, as the beginning of university collaboration, it was proposed that some of the PhD students from the MST Department of Chemical Engineering could be co-supervised by Asst. Prof. Ertuğrul Erkoç.

Prof. Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan shared that MST, despite not ranking high in general academic rankings, has established a unique "End-to-End Production-Oriented Education" system. This system has enabled the university to produce graduates who are in high demand in the U.S. industry, with some of the highest-paying jobs in the field.

Prof. Dr. Ali Sürmen, the Rector of BTU, expressed his satisfaction with the visit and emphasized the importance of establishing the AICHE student chapter at BTÜ, which was a key topic in his discussion with Prof. Al-Dahhan. He mentioned that if the organization is established, BTÜ's Chemical Engineering students would experience significant academic advancements.

Prof. Dr. Ali Sürmen continued: "The proposal made by my esteemed colleague, Prof. Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, on behalf of his university and institute, includes diversifying the resources available to our students, offering opportunities to study and intern in the U.S. for at least one year without paying tuition fees, and enabling graduate and PhD students to conduct part of their thesis work at Missouri University of Science and Engineering."

Rector Sürmen also noted, "I believe that Missouri S&T's production-oriented education policy is highly suitable for a city like Bursa. Benefiting from their experience will be a great advantage for both our university and the industry. Prof. Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan's proposals are very promising developments for our university."
